Very Still Life

The Macabre Masterpieces of Roni Landa

Very Still Life

visual culture

There’s a clear taste for the macabre in the work of Roni Landa. For her series “Very Still Life”, the artist from Tel Aviv built intricate table settings with luscious buffets of fake fruits and vegetables—but with a twist. Each artichoke, cabbage, or corn cob is rendered in a mix of bold reds and pearly whites, which marbling fat streaking through the leaves and tooth-shaped kernels sprouting from the core. A peppering of maggots offer a finishing touch—this supper is over.
