Thomas Hoepker (born 1936 in Munich) began his career as a photographer for Münchener Illustrierte and Kristall, later reporting for stern from East Berlin and, from 1976, New York. In 1989, he became the first German full member of Magnum Photos, serving as vice president in 1992 and president from 2003 to 2006. Beyond photography, Hoepker also worked in documentary film. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications.
